Founded in 1992, Summerbridge Hong Kong is a non-profit organization which creates unique educational opportunities for highly motivated, but socioeconomically underprivileged secondary school students in Hong Kong. It provides comprehensive year-round English immersion programs to develop students’ language communication, self-confidence, and interest in the learning process through an intensive English Language Development curriculum, small class size, individual mentoring, and hands-on learning strategies.
Summerbridge Hong Kong is currently recruiting passionate and enthusiastic students to join the 2023 Summer Program as Student Teachers. Summerbridge student teachers are between the ages of 16 to 22 from high schools and universities around the world, such as the US, UK, Canada, and Hong Kong. They are a diverse group, bringing a variety of talents and backgrounds to the program; some come with prior teaching experience while others teach for the first time. With the help and guidance from professional teachers, student teachers commit to seven weeks of intensive teaching and community service, in which they complete teacher training, design their own curriculum, teach their own classes, administer programs, and evaluate student performance. Common to all student teachers is a desire to help young people, a commitment to both teaching and learning, and a willingness to work in a demanding yet highly rewarding environment that celebrates academic achievement, creativity, individuality, and risk-taking.
Participation as a Student Teacher in the 2023 Summer Program is a full-time commitment and runs June 17 to August 11, 2023. More details about the teaching opportunity can be seen here and an informational video about the summer experience can be found on this page.
Applications to become a Student Teacher can be found here, and the deadline to apply is February 24, 2023. More information about the organization can be found on our website, at summerbridge.org.hk. We hope to see you this summer!
