Bringing Books to Life: Reading Aloud with Kids4Kids Buddy Reading Programme

Kids4Kids is a Hong Kong based non-profit organisation developing social awareness and responsibility. It provides platforms that empower kids aged 6-17 years to enact positive change in their community. To date, Kids4Kids has partnered with over 50 schools, 8 corporate groups and 24 organisations and has involved 15,000 students.

Project details

Students in the year-long course BBED6726 Teaching English through Literature and Language Arts will provide support and assistance to Kids4Kids as volunteers for the group reading programmes in Semester 2 of 2016-17. Students will be able to put their skills and knowledge from the course into practice through this community link. Students will also develop small-scale lesson plans for the reading programme so that other volunteers can use them in the future.

Students will commit to a minimum of three scheduled sessions where they volunteer to read to local children between February and May of the second semester.

  • Semester 2, 2017-18
  • Mandatory on-campus training and evaluation sessions will be arranged before and after the experiential learning project

Eligibility

UG students from all programmes (No. of places: 20)

Application

Register BBED6726 Teaching English through Literature and Language Arts via SIS. Students will earn 6 credits after successful completion of the course.
