International Global Education Camp by SCI(HK)

Background of co-organiser

Service Civil International (SCI) Hong Kong

Service Civil International (SCI) is a volunteer organisation dedicated to promoting a culture of peace by organising international voluntary projects for people of all ages and backgrounds. The organisation consists of 45 branches and an ever growing number of partner organisations in 85 countries.

They believe that living and working together with people of different backgrounds helps volunteers to break down barriers and prejudices. It allows them to experience a world of mutual respect and understanding. In this sense, volunteering can be seen as a way of life, a demonstration of the possible reality of a peaceful and cooperative world.

SCI offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to people, such as short, mid-and long term projects, but also the possibility to become active for a local branch or participate in a seminar or training.

Throughout the years SCI has also organized, coordinated and joined many international campaigns that aim at raising people’s awareness about global and local issues related to peace, migration, climate justice, active citizenship, human rights, development education, volunteering and more.

Project details

This program will be based on understanding our world better. The participating local school will select 10 students to participate in an international workcamp with 6 international participants. Students will have an opportunity to spend three days, two nights with international delegates in a local  campsite. During the time, students will identify problems we face in our own communities, in East Asian region and in the world. Discussion with international delegates will take place daily. Problem-trees, conflict-mapping and social analytical methods will be deployed in identifying problems and needs of the communities. This will encourage students to be analytical thinkers. Activity coordinator will support each student group in this stage with necessary supervision and knowledge.
