Background of co-organiser
The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) is the statutory body established in May 2001 under the Urban Renewal Authority Ordinance to undertake, encourage, promote and facilitate urban renewal of Hong Kong, with a view to addressing the problem of urban decay and improving the living conditions of residents in dilapidated areas. The URA adopts a holistic approach by ways of its two core businesses i.e. redevelopment and rehabilitation, as well as heritage preservation and revitalisation, to create a sustainable and quality urban living in Hong Kong.
Project details
The URA has been implementing an array of education programmes to enhance the young people’s understanding of urban decay problem and inspire them to explore urban renewal from different perspectives. The students will assist in the education and extension programmes and their main responsibilities will include:
Option 1 – Summer Programme
- To design a one-day or half-day programme for secondary / primary students to learn about urban renewal in an interactive and interesting way in the URA’s Urban Renewal Exploration Centre (UREC); and
- To recruit target participants to participate in the programme and invite other teachers for learning/sharing.
- Time frame: June to August 2018 (to complete the design of the programme by end of June for promotion; to launch the programme in summer vacation, i.e. mid-July to end of August).
Option 2 – Outreach Programme
- To review URA’s existing interactive educational programme and/or design a new programme targeting secondary / primary school students; and
- To bring the programme to at least one secondary / primary school and invite other teachers for learning/sharing.
- Time frame: before end of school year in mid-July 2018 or after the start of new school year in September 2018
