We are very pleased to have 10 HKU student teachers who went the extra miles to do their experiential learning project with us in Sri Lanka during their summer holiday.
They carried out fantastic workshops and teamwork games. Their interaction with kids have given them confidence in speaking English, and making connections with people from the outside world. Despite challenges, it is a learning experience how the student teachers adapt to different cultures, solve problems and cater for the diversity. It is amazing how people from different cultures do things together and build positive relationships.
We would like to thank EL team for the great partnership and the PGDE students for their dedication. We hope this valuable yet challenging learning journey will stay with our future educators in the face of the fast-changing world.

STEM is taking up an important role as it pervades every part of our lives, and manipulating STEM knowledge and applications are regarded as one of the keys to success.
We are delighted to co-work with student-teachers at the Experiential Learning platform to drive new ideas on nurturing critical thinkers and innovators. PGDE students with us are passionate with creative minds, they have fully made use of available resources to turn out-of-the-box ideas into practical workshops with clear objectives. The end-product is a powerful tool to inspire the next generation on STEM applications. We are thankful for their commitment to the community, and to nurture STEM talents for the Innovation & Technology ecosystem.

It has been a pleasure to work with HKU PGDE students who are quick to learn and are eager to instill positive values in their placement work. We are grateful for their contribution to World Vision’s Global Citizenship Programme in which new experiential workshops were carefully designed and tested, now having been conducted successfully in various schools. With knowledge and experience in education, these students also gave helpful comments to the enhancement of our educational services. The dynamics among the internship team was also remarkable as each student specialises in a different sector. It was great to have these students helping in our ministry.

Experiential learning refers to the process of learning by doing, by which an experimental platform is provided for students to practice and improvise ideas and pedagogies they learnt. This very much echoes with UNICEF HK’s approach of youth and volunteer engagement.
Intern students from the Faculty were enthusiastic about child rights knowledge and students’ participation, and developed a new educational activity named “Climate Change Action” for secondary school students. We were deeply impressed by the intern students’ preparedness, creativity and ability to integrate subject knowledge into HKCU’s child rights education; it created value to and expand the scope of UNICEF HK’s education work. The intern students successfully run the activity in 11 schools, they faced challenges, kept improving and improvising after gaining each practical experience. The positive responses from participating students were the evidence and recognition of their success and effort. We are happy to continue the collaboration with the EL programme.
